“Good Morning,” Cara said, looking over her shoulder. She was sitting in the sun on the balcony, her bare legs resting on the balustrade. “How are you feeling?” Billie felt a tingle of excitement when she met her broad smile. Cara looked hot as hell in her white t-shirt and shades. The red and black tattoos on her right arm matched the red flowers in the pots, next to the breakfast table. It would have made a beautiful picture, Billie thought. She tied her white robe and joined Cara outside.
“Much better after those painkillers. Thank you.” She chuckled. “I’m sorry if I harassed you last night.”
“Not at all,” Cara said, handing her a glass of orange juice. “You were fast asleep within two minutes.” She failed to mention waking up to find Billie holding her. She’d pretended to be asleep to make it last just a little bit longer. “Here, help yourself to coffee and breakfast. Blossom brought it up five minutes ago. The croissants are still warm.”
“Who’s Blossom?” Billie narrowed her eyes in confusion, then shook her head. “You know what? Never mind. It smells delicious, and I’m dying for a coffee.” She put her legs up too while pouring herself a coffee, and looked out over the back garden. “Good find, Cara. It’s so pretty here. Kind of idyllic, with all the fruit trees and the little stream running through the back there. How did you find it?” Cara shrugged.
“Just lucky. We’re in a residential neighborhood, not far from where we were last night.” Billie smiled and met Cara’s gaze.
“It was a fun night, wasn’t it? Thank you for taking care of me.” She glanced at the lush surroundings. “In a really, really great way.” Cara winked over the rim of her coffee cup.
“It was a pleasure. Hey, your phone has been ringing all morning. I think you should check your messages; it might be important.” Billie winced as she looked over at her bag in the far corner of the room. It looked impossibly far away from the comfortable position she was in now, and quite frankly, she was dreading to look. She vaguely remembered her phone ringing throughout the night, and that was rarely good news. Finally, Cara stood up to get Billie’s bag and handed her the phone from the front pocket.
“Here. Just get it over with.”
“Thanks.” Billie’s worried face lit up as she scrolled through her messages. “I’m an auntie!” she exclaimed. “Helen’s had a little girl. She’s five weeks early, but she’s fine. They both are.” She smiled at Cara. “Her name is Daisy. Pretty name, don't you think?”
“It is.” Cara felt happy just watching Billie’s delighted smile. “Do you have a picture?”
“Just loading now,” Billie said. She stood up and sat down on Cara’s lap with an arm around her neck and her phone in front of them. She pressed her cheek against Cara’s as she looked at the pictures that popped up one by one.
“She’s beautiful,” Billie said in a whisper. “I’ve never seen anything so tiny.
